甘南50 Places You Must Visit in Your Life

Gannan, known as "Little Tibet" in Gansu, was selected as one of the "50 Places You Must Visit in Your Life" by National Geographic.

Be sure to visit: Gansu Museum, Baita Mountain Park, Yellow River- Mother River, Yellow River Iron Bridge, Lanzhou Monument, and Zhengning Road Snacks.

The guesthouse owners usually provide a navigation route for "watching the sunset" (starting around 17:00).

Labrang Monastery: Known as the "world's longest corridor for revolving sutras" and the "world's Tibetan Buddhist learning center."
When the sun rises or sets, walk through the parking lot and climb up the opposite hillside to overlook the Labrang Monastery in all its grandeur; the Gongtang Pagoda is also a good place to see the panoramic view of the Labrang Monastery (tickets needed).
Ticket: 40 yuan/person.
There are many places to stay near the temple, but the environment is generally average.
There are not many dining options, but the Wuzelinca Tibetan restaurant is recommended online.

Zagana: Known as the birthplace of Adam and Eve by explorer Locke.
Zagana has four villages in total, and the main routes are:
  First route: Dongwa Village, Yeri Village, Dari Village, and Daiba Village.
  Second route: Big Canyon.
  Third route: Xianv Beach and Xianv Lake.
Xianv Beach can be reached by boardwalk (about 30 minutes) or electric car (40/person, fee includes One-line Sky and Xianv Beach).
The location of Yeri Village is suitable for shooting the sunrise. The Luoke observation deck behind it has a good view of the panoramic view of Dongwa Village.
Ticket: 85 yuan.

Ruoergai: Named for its colorful Flower Lake, it is praised by National Geographic Magazine as the "most beautiful wetland in China." The first bend of the Yellow River is also known as the "place of the sun and moon."
Flower Lake: 105 yuan/person; First Bend: 100 yuan/person (including elevator).

Amiacang Wetland: the first bend of the Yellow River. Climbing up Gonzaierkamudao can overlook the entire red house of Amiacang.
Pass by Niangma Temple and check out the world's largest revolving scripture.

Dayu Valley: Known as the "Jiuzhaigou in the South," "Dayu Valley in the North."
Scenery is mainly composed of peaks, waterfalls, streams, and strange rocks.
Ticket: 135 yuan (valid for two days, including sightseeing car).

Lotus Baoyeze: "Heavenly Garden."
If you're driving, head straight to the end of the Zager Cuo boardwalk (the highest point is the most beautiful), and then visit other attractions below.
Ticket: 120 yuan.

Milarepa Buddha Pavilion: The only Buddhist holy land in the world that worships various schools of Tibetan Buddhism.
Climb up the wooden stairs layer by layer to observe different Buddhas on each layer.
Ticket: 20 yuan.

📌Notes:
Gannan belongs to a plateau area with a large temperature difference between morning and night. Be sure to bring a down jacket or a warm outdoor jacket to avoid intense exercise.
The plateau area is prone to altitude sickness, so be sure to bring medication such as Burlofen, glucose, and motion sickness medicine.
Parking in the scenic area is generally 5-10 yuan, and parking fees are charged hourly at certain scenic areas. Most areas accept payment by mobile payment QR code, and cash is also accepted in some areas.
Be sure to bring photography equipment such as sunglasses, hats, shawls, selfie sticks, power banks, umbrellas, and drones.
When entering an ethnic minority area, be sure to respect local customs.
